Hearts & Horses Therapeutic Riding Center received a wonderful donation from girl Scout Troop 1674 from Gorham, Maine on Monday May 14th.

The Leader Renee Dugas & co Leader Gail Yahwak along with Troop 1674 had collected bottles over a 3 month period of time. The funds were raised to buy new Riding helmets for the Therapy program. The girls came up with this idea in March. They collected bottles from Friends & Family. They went on a field trip to South Windham Blue Seal Feed & Needs to Purchase the helmets. When they told the manager what they were doing & who the helmets were for. He gave them a Great discount. The girls were able to Purchase 8 saftey helmets for Hearts & Horses Therapeutic Riding Center. Special thanks to troop 1674 From Stephanie Keene Director & Weston Pease Board Member.

Volunteering

The heart of our program lies in our volunteers.

The generous donation of time and energy by our volunteers as leaders and side walkers greatly enhances our ability to work with our riders. Working as part of a team, volunteers assist the riders with class activities and thereby help them achieve their individual goals. Other volunteering opportunities include office assistance, even coordination of special events and fundraising. Training is provided to all volunteers.

Volunteer Qualifications
  • A sense of humor
  • About 1 ½ hours per week
  • A desire to help others
  • An interest in learning about horses
